Vehicle pursuit policy

Initiation

A pursuit may be initiated for a felony offence or a driver who presents an immediate danger. Traffic infractions alone do not justify a pursuit.

Unit limits

Primary, secondary and a supervisor. Additional units parallel or stage ahead; they do not join the pack.

Termination

Any supervisor may call off a pursuit. The primary unit may also terminate at their own discretion without penalty.

Intervention

PIT below 35 mph requires no authorisation. Above 35 mph requires supervisor approval on the air.
